It's the little things

After ignoring her right hand for months and months, 18 month old Evelina was able to pick up 5 small toys independently, with her right hand, and move them across her mid-line! What a day!!!

Evelina is a stroke survivor and has paralysis on her right side. Her stroke occurred before she was born. This is called an in utero stroke or a perinatal stroke.

  2. My son Christian has the exact same thing, same side, and also it happened while I was pregnant with him. I didn't find out about it till he was almost a year old, the doctors keeped saying it was Brachial Plexus Injury. Evalina helps me know that everything is going to be just fine with Christian. Thank you so much for giving me hope.

  5. I had a stroke in utero that affected my right side, and now I am 35 years old! I was just hunting around the internet this evening after really not thinking about it for a long, long time. I am an assistant director at a social service agency, I wear high heels, and I can type a mean streak (with my left hand). When I am tired, I limp, and my right side is sensitive to pressure. But no biggy. Evelina just really reminded me of myself - I still ignore my right side. I think of it as the friend that I have to take everywhere with me. I so hope Evelina has it as easy as me!

  6. My daughter Lilyana is 18 months old, she suffered in utero stroke and as a result infantile spasms. It's been a long hard road for my angel, but we are so thankful for what she has overcome with the horrible prognosis the dr.s warned us about. She rarely uses her right hand, every once in a while she'll realize its there and mess with it a little but never uses it for anything. She doesn't crawl, walk or eat with that right side. We are hoping she will walk one day and pray pray pray that she never sufferes another stroke or seizure. We have never found out what caused her stroke.
